🔧 Canyon - Engine Air Filter Replacement
Your Canyon’s engine air filter sits inside the airbox (the plastic box that feeds clean air to the engine). Replacing it keeps airflow strong, helps fuel economy, and protects the engine from dust and debris.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.4 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Let the engine cool before working near the intake area.
- ⚠️ Do not start the engine with the airbox open or the filter removed.
- ⚠️ Do not drop dirt into the intake tube (the large plastic/rubber tube leading to the engine).
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Nitrile gloves
- Flashlight
- Flathead screwdriver (medium)
- 8mm socket
- 1/4" drive ratchet
- Microfiber towel

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the ignition off and remove the key (or keep the key fob away from the truck).
- Open the hood and locate the airbox on the front/outer side of the engine bay.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the airbox and inspect the cover
- Use a flashlight to find the airbox cover seams and how it’s held on (usually metal clips, sometimes screws).
- Airbox = plastic filter housing.
Step 2: Open the airbox
- If your airbox uses clips: Release each clip by hand; if one is stubborn, gently pry it with a flathead screwdriver (medium).
- If your airbox uses screws/bolts: Use an 8mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet to loosen/remove the fasteners holding the cover.
- Lift the airbox cover just enough to remove the filter without stressing the intake tube.
Step 3: Remove the old air filter
- Pull the filter straight up/out with gloved hands.
- Use a flashlight to look inside the bottom half of the airbox for leaves or dirt.
Step 4: Clean the airbox sealing area
- Use a microfiber towel to wipe the airbox sealing lip (where the filter edge sits).
- Do not push debris into the intake opening.
- Clean seal prevents dirty air bypass.
Step 5: Install the new air filter
- Place the new filter into the lower airbox tray, matching the old filter’s orientation.
- Make sure the filter sits flat all the way around (no pinched corners).
Step 6: Close and secure the airbox
- Lower the airbox cover into position.
- Re-latch the clips by hand, or reinstall the fasteners using an 8mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.
- Do a quick tug-check on the cover to confirm it’s fully seated.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 15–30 seconds.
- Listen for any loud hissing/whistling (a sign the airbox cover isn’t sealed).
- Recheck the clips/fasteners if you hear any unusual intake noise.
