🔧 Air Filter - Replacement

Your Accord uses a serviceable engine air filter inside the air box. This is a quick job, and the main goal is to keep dirt out of the engine while making sure the air box seals fully when you put it back together.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the engine off and let it cool before opening the air box.
  • Keep loose dirt, leaves, and tools away from the open intake.
  • Make sure the filter sits flat so unfiltered air cannot bypass it.
  • No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and make sure the engine is off.
  • Have the new filter ready before you remove the old one.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the air box

  • Open the hood and locate the air filter box on the passenger side of the engine bay.
  • Release the air box retaining clips by hand.
  • If your lid feels stuck, gently lift the cover instead of forcing it.

Step 2: Remove the old filter

  • Lift the air box cover enough to access the filter.
  • Pull the old filter straight out.
  • Note the filter's direction before removal.

Step 3: Install the new filter

  • Install the new filter in the same direction as the old one.
  • Make sure the filter frame sits fully in the air box groove.
  • Check that the sealing edge is not folded or pinched.

Step 4: Close and secure the air box

  • Lower the air box cover carefully.
  • Reinstall and lock all retaining clips by hand.
  • Verify the cover is seated evenly all the way around.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the engine and listen for any hissing or whistling near the air box.
  • Make sure the hood closes normally and nothing is left loose in the engine bay.
  • If the engine light comes on, recheck the air box seal and clips.
