📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the engine off and let it cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air filter box
- Use a flashlight to find the black plastic air box on the driver-side of the engine bay (it connects to the intake tube).
Step 2: Unclip the air box lid
- Use your hands to release the metal retaining clips around the air box lid.
- If a clip is stubborn, use a flat trim tool gently to pop it loose. A trim tool is a plastic pry tool that helps you lift clips without damaging plastic.
Step 3: Open the air box and remove the old filter
- Lift the air box lid enough to access the filter.
- Pull the old filter straight out.
- Tip: Note which side faces up.
Step 4: Clean out the air box
- Use the flashlight to inspect inside the lower air box.
- Wipe out loose dust with a clean rag (do not let debris fall into the intake opening).
Step 5: Install the new filter
- Place the new filter into the air box in the same orientation as the old one.
- Make sure the filter’s rubber edge sits flat all the way around (no gaps).
Step 6: Close the air box and reclip
- Set the lid back into place and confirm it’s seated evenly.
- Snap all retaining clips closed by hand.
- Do a quick visual check that the lid isn’t pinching the filter.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 10-20 seconds; listen for any hissing/air leak sound near the air box.
- If you hear a leak, turn the engine off and re-seat the air box lid and clips.
