📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground, shift to neutral, and set the parking brake.
- 🧊 Let the engine cool for 15–30 minutes if it was running.
- 🔦 Open the hood and locate the black plastic air filter box on the passenger side of the engine bay.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the air filter box
- Use safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Use a flashlight to find the air box lid seams and the retaining clips.
- Unclip the metal retaining clips by hand. If your air box has screws instead of clips, remove them with a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 2: Lift the lid and remove the old filter
- Lift the air box lid straight up enough to clear the filter.
- Pull the old filter straight out.
- Tip: Note which side faces up.
Step 3: Clean the air box (quick check)
- Use a flashlight to look inside the lower air box.
- Wipe out loose dust with a slightly damp rag (do not let debris fall into the intake opening).
Step 4: Install the new filter
- Place the new filter into the lower air box in the same orientation as the old one.
- Make sure the filter sits flat all the way around (no corners folded).
Step 5: Close and secure the air box
- Lower the lid back into place, lining up the edges.
- Snap the clips back on by hand, or tighten screws with a Phillips screwdriver until snug (do not over-tighten).
✅ After Repair
- 🔍 Double-check all clips/screws are secured and the lid seam is evenly closed.
- 🚗 Start the engine and let it idle for 20–30 seconds; it should run smoothly.
- 🧾 If the old filter was very dirty, plan to recheck the new one sooner if you drive in dusty areas.
