🔧 Grand Caravan - Engine Air Filter Replacement
Replacing the engine air filter helps your engine breathe clean air, which supports smooth acceleration and good fuel economy. On your Grand Caravan, the filter sits inside the air cleaner box under the hood and is a quick, beginner-friendly job.

- ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the radiator fans; they can turn on unexpectedly.
- ⚠️ Do not run the engine with the air filter removed; dirt can be pulled in.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air cleaner box
- Use a flashlight to find the black plastic air cleaner box and the large intake tube running to the engine.
- Have a shop towel ready to wipe dust away from the opening.
Step 2: Release the air cleaner cover
- Release the metal retaining clips on the air cleaner box by hand. If a clip is stubborn, gently help it with a flathead screwdriver.
- If the intake tube clamp prevents the lid from lifting, loosen the clamp using an 8mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.
- Don’t force the plastic; it can crack.
Step 3: Open the air cleaner box
- Lift the air cleaner lid enough to access the filter. Support it carefully so you don’t stress the intake tube.
- Use a shop towel to wipe loose dirt from the inside edge of the box (do not push dirt down the intake).
Step 4: Remove the old air filter
- Pull the old filter straight out by hand while wearing nitrile gloves.
- Check the bottom of the air box for leaves or debris and wipe it out with a shop towel.
Step 5: Install the new air filter
- Place the new filter into the lower box in the same direction as the old one.
- Make sure the filter’s rubber edge is fully seated all the way around (no corners folded).
- A poor seal can let dirt bypass the filter.
Step 6: Reassemble the air cleaner box
- Lower the lid and ensure it lines up with the lower half evenly.
- Re-latch all retaining clips by hand.
- If you loosened the intake clamp, tighten it using the 8mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet until snug (do not overtighten).
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 15–30 seconds.
- Listen for hissing/whistling that could indicate the air box isn’t sealed or the clamp is loose.
- Do a quick visual check that all clips are fully latched and the lid is sitting flat.
