- ⚠️ Keep dirt out of the intake tube—don’t leave the airbox open longer than needed.
- ⚠️ Do not start the engine with the filter removed.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

- 🧊 Let the engine cool for at least 15 minutes if it was running.
- 🧼 Have a clean towel ready so nothing falls into the intake.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the hood and find the airbox
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Use a flashlight to locate the airbox (the plastic box that holds the engine air filter) in the engine bay.
Step 2: Unclip the airbox lid
- Use your hands (wear nitrile gloves) to release the metal retaining clips around the airbox lid.
- If it fights you, wiggle the clip—don’t pry hard.
Step 3: Lift the lid and remove the old filter
- Carefully lift the airbox lid just enough to access the filter (you usually don’t need to remove the whole lid).
- Pull the old filter straight out and set it aside.
Step 4: Clean the airbox sealing surface
- Use a clean shop towel to wipe out loose dust inside the lower airbox.
- Make sure the sealing edge (where the filter sits) is clean and dry.
Step 5: Install the new air filter
- Place the new filter into the lower airbox the same way the old one came out.
- Check that the filter sits flat all the way around and isn’t pinched.
Step 6: Close the airbox and re-latch the clips
- Lower the airbox lid fully into place.
- Snap all retaining clips back on by hand.
- Use a flashlight to confirm the lid is evenly seated all the way around.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Start the engine and let it idle for 10-20 seconds.
- ✅ Listen for a hissing/whistling sound (can mean the airbox lid isn’t sealed).
- ✅ Recheck that all clips are fully latched.
