🔧 Engine Air Filter - Replacement

Your Camry uses a serviceable engine air filter inside the air cleaner box. Replacing it helps maintain airflow, fuel economy, and engine protection. This is a simple maintenance job and usually takes just a few minutes.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Work with the engine off and fully cool.
  • Keep dirt, leaves, and tools out of the open air box.
  • Do not run the engine with the air box open for long.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Flat trim tool
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

  • Engine air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key or keep the fob away from the car.
  • Let the engine cool if it was recently running.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the air cleaner box

  • Open the hood and locate the black air cleaner box on the engine bay.
  • Use a flat trim tool to release the air box clips if needed.
  • Lift the top cover carefully without forcing it.

Step 2: Remove the old filter

  • Lift the old air filter straight out of the air box.
  • Keep the opening covered if you need a moment before installing the new filter.
  • Do not drop debris into the intake.

Step 3: Clean the air box

  • Use a clean rag or your gloved hand to remove loose dirt from the air box.
  • Check the sealing edge for leaves, dust, or damage.
  • Make sure the intake tube is seated properly.

Step 4: Install the new filter

  • Place the new engine air filter into the air box in the same orientation as the old one.
  • Make sure the rubber seal sits flat all the way around.
  • A crooked filter can let dirt in.

Step 5: Close the air box

  • Lower the air box cover into place.
  • Use your hands to snap the clips back into position.
  • Check that the cover is fully seated on all sides.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the engine and listen for any unusual intake noise.
  • Make sure the air box is fully sealed.
  • Reset your maintenance reminder if your Camry is due for service.
