- Engine air filter - Qty: 1
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Let the engine cool for 15+ minutes if it was running.
- Open the hood and locate the air filter box on the passenger-side of the engine bay (black plastic box with metal clips).
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the air filter box
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Use a flashlight to find the metal spring clips around the air box lid.
- Release each clip. If one is stubborn, use a flat-blade screwdriver (medium) to gently pry the clip open. Don’t crack the plastic tabs.
Step 2: Remove the old air filter
- Lift the air box lid enough to access the filter (you usually don’t need to remove the intake tube).
- Pull the filter straight up and out using your gloved hands.
- Use a clean shop towel to wipe loose dirt from the air box sealing surface (the flat edge where the filter sits).
Step 3: Install the new air filter
- Place the new filter into the air box in the same orientation as the old one.
- Use the flashlight to confirm the filter is fully seated and flat all the way around (no corners folded).
Step 4: Close and latch the air box
- Lower the air box lid into place.
- Re-latch all the clips by hand; if needed, use the flat-blade screwdriver (medium) to help guide a clip into place (do not force it).
- Use the flashlight to verify the lid is evenly closed on all sides.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 15–30 seconds.
- Listen for whistling or hissing (can indicate the air box lid isn’t sealed).
- Take a short drive and re-check that the clips are still fully latched.
