🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air filter housing
- Use a flashlight to find the air filter housing (the black plastic air box). It’s the box feeding the intake tube.
- The housing is held shut with metal clips (no bolts on most setups).
Step 2: Unclip and open the air box
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Release the metal retaining clips by hand (pull them off the lid).
- Lift the top half of the air box just enough to remove the filter. Do not force it.
Step 3: Remove the old air filter
- Pull the filter straight out.
- Use a flashlight to note how the filter sits (the sealing edge should sit flat in the groove).
Step 4: Clean the air box (lightly)
- Use a clean shop towel to wipe out loose dust inside the lower half of the air box.
- Do not drop dirt into the intake opening.
Step 5: Install the new air filter
- Place the new filter into the lower air box the same way the old one came out.
- Make sure the filter’s rubber sealing edge sits evenly all the way around (no corners folded).
Step 6: Close and secure the air box
- Lower the air box lid back into place.
- Reattach all the metal clips by hand so the lid is fully sealed.
- Use a flashlight to double-check the lid is seated evenly around the perimeter.
âś… After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 20–30 seconds.
- Listen for any hissing/whistling (a sign the air box isn’t sealed).
- Take a short drive and confirm there’s no check engine light.
