📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Frontier on level ground and shift to P.
• Turn the engine off and open the hood.
• Have your new filter unwrapped and ready, but keep it clean.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Find the air filter box

• Use a flashlight to locate the large black plastic air box (the housing that holds the filter) in the engine bay.
• You’ll see an intake tube coming off it toward the engine.

Step 2: Open the air box clips

• Use work gloves and release the metal retaining clips on the air box lid (flip them down/off the lid).
• If the lid feels stuck, gently wiggle it by hand—don’t pry hard. Go slow to avoid cracking plastic.

Step 3: Lift the lid and remove the old filter

• Lift the air box lid just enough to slide the filter out (you usually don’t need to remove the intake tube).
• Pull the old filter straight out and note how it sits (which side faces up).

Step 4: Clean the air box (lightly)

• Use a clean shop towel to wipe out loose dust inside the lower half of the air box.
• Do not drop dirt into the intake opening; keep the lid positioned to minimize exposure.

Step 5: Install the new filter

• Place the new filter into the air box in the same orientation as the old one.
• Make sure it sits flat all the way around; the rubber edge should seal evenly.

Step 6: Close the air box and latch the clips

• Set the lid back into position so it mates evenly with the lower air box.
• Snap the retaining clips back into place by hand (no tools needed).
• Do a quick visual check that the lid isn’t pinching the filter.

• Start your Frontier and let it idle for 10-15 seconds.
• Listen for a loud hissing/whistling sound (can indicate the air box isn’t fully sealed).
• If you feel hesitation or see a check engine light soon after, re-check that the air box lid is fully clipped and the filter is seated.
