š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the engine off.
- Open the hood and let the engine cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Have a clean rag ready so no dirt falls into the air box.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Find the air filter housing
- Open the hood and use a flashlight to locate the black plastic air box on the passenger-side front area of the engine bay.
- The air box is connected to a large intake tube leading toward the engine.
Step 2: Unclip the air box cover
- Use your hands to release the metal retaining clips around the air box lid.
- If a clip is stubborn, gently help it with a flat-blade screwdriver.
- Donāt pry hard; clips bend easily.
Step 3: Open the air box
- Lift the top cover of the air box upward.
- If the intake tube limits movement, lift the cover just enough to remove the filter without forcing anything.
Step 4: Remove the old filter
- Pull the filter straight out with nitrile gloves on.
- Use a flashlight to note how it sits (the rubber seal faces outward and must seat evenly all the way around).
Step 5: Clean the air box (lightly)
- Use a clean shop rag to wipe out loose dust inside the lower air box.
- Do not let dirt fall into the intake opening.
- Do not use compressed air here.
Step 6: Install the new filter
- Place the new filter into the lower air box the same way the old one came out.
- Make sure the filterās rubber edge sits flat and fully seated all the way around.
Step 7: Close and latch the air box
- Lower the air box lid back into place.
- Reinstall the retaining clips by hand until each one snaps fully closed.
- If your air box uses a clamp in your build, snug it carefully with a flat-blade screwdriver (do not overtighten).
ā After Repair
- Visually confirm all clips are fully latched and the lid seam is even.
- Start the engine and let it idle for 20-30 seconds; listen for any hissing (a hissing sound can mean the air box isnāt sealed).
- Take a short drive and make sure thereās no check engine light.
