📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground, shift to neutral, and set the parking brake.
- 🧊 Let the engine cool for 10-15 minutes if it was running.
- 🔦 Have your flashlight ready so you can see the air box clips clearly.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the hood and locate the air filter box
- Use your flashlight to find the black plastic air box on the passenger-side of the engine bay.
- The air filter sits inside this box, right where the intake tube connects.
Step 2: Unclip the air box lid
- Use your hands (with nitrile gloves) to flip open the metal retaining clips around the air box lid.
- If a clip is stuck, gently pry it with a flathead screwdriver just enough to release it.
- Don’t force it; clips can bend.
Step 3: Lift the lid and remove the old filter
- Lift the air box lid up slightly to access the filter (you usually don’t need to fully remove the lid).
- Pull the old air filter straight out.
- Use a clean shop towel to wipe out loose dust/leaves inside the lower air box.
Step 4: Install the new air filter
- Insert the new engine air filter into the lower air box.
- Make sure the rubber sealing edge sits flat all the way around so unfiltered air can’t bypass it.
Step 5: Close the air box and latch the clips
- Lower the lid back into place, making sure it aligns evenly with the bottom half.
- Use your hands to snap the clips back on.
- Do a quick visual check that the lid seam is even all the way around.
✅ After Repair
- 🔍 Start the engine and let it idle for 10-20 seconds; it should run smoothly.
- 🧾 If you hear a loud hissing/whistling, shut it off and re-check that the air box is fully clipped and sealed.
