🔧 Engine Air Filter - Replacement

Your air filter sits in the air box on the passenger side of the engine bay. Replacing it keeps dirt out of the engine and helps maintain smooth airflow and fuel economy.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Make sure the engine is off and cool before opening the air box.
  • Keep loose tools, rags, and debris away from the intake opening.
  • Do not start the engine with the air box open.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Flat-blade screwdriver
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

  • Engine air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and let the engine cool if it was recently running.
  • Tip: Blow out loose dirt before opening the box.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the air box

  • Locate the air filter housing on the passenger side of the engine bay.
  • Use a flat-blade screwdriver to loosen any intake clamps if needed.
  • Release the air box cover clips by hand or use a trim clip removal tool if they are tight.

Step 2: Remove the old filter

  • Lift the air box lid carefully and remove the old filter.
  • Check the housing for leaves, dirt, or bugs.
  • Wipe the inside clean with a dry cloth.

Step 3: Install the new filter

  • Place the new engine air filter into the housing the same way the old one came out.
  • Make sure the filter edge sits flat all the way around.
  • Tip: A crooked filter can let dirt through.

Step 4: Reassemble the air box

  • Set the air box cover back in place.
  • Snap the clips back down securely.
  • Tighten any intake clamps you loosened with the flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 5: Final check

  • Close the hood.
  • Start the engine and listen for any intake leaks or unusual whistling.
  • If the engine runs normally, the job is complete.

✅ After Repair

  • Verify the air box is fully latched on both sides.
  • Make sure the intake tube is seated correctly.
  • Check again after a short drive for any loose clips or clamps.
