šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and clear the glove box
- Open the glove box fully and remove any contents.
- Use a small flashlight to look along the sides for the glove box āstopsā (little tabs that limit how far it opens).
Step 2: Release the glove box to drop it down
- On the right side, unhook the small ādamperā arm (it slows the glove box). Use a trim removal tool (plastic) to gently pop it off if needed. Go slowāplastic clips can snap.
- Push the glove box sides inward by hand to clear the stops, then let the glove box rotate downward.
Step 3: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the glove box, locate the cabin filter cover door (rectangular panel).
- Release the cover tabs by hand; if tight, use the trim removal tool (plastic) to help.
- If your cover uses screws on your Traverse, remove them with a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the filter straight out.
- Keep it level to avoid dumping leaves/dust into the housing.
- Use the small flashlight to check for debris inside the filter box and remove any loose leaves by hand while wearing nitrile gloves.
Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter
- Insert the new filter in the same direction as the old one.
- Look for the airflow arrow on the filter frame and match it to the airflow direction marking on the housing (if shown). If no marking is visible, install it the same way the old filter came out.
- Make sure the filter sits flat and fully seatedāno curled edges.
Step 6: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the filter access door and snap the tabs back into place by hand.
- If screws were removed, reinstall them with a Phillips #2 screwdriver (snug only; do not overtighten).
- Lift the glove box back up, push the sides inward to pass the stops, then reattach the damper arm on the right side.
ā After Repair
- Start the vehicle and run the fan on medium, then high. Confirm airflow is stronger and there are no rattles.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to verify normal operation.
- If you still smell musty odor, the evaporator case may need cleaning (separate service).
