📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Crosstrek on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Slide the passenger seat back to give yourself working room.
• Empty the glove box so nothing falls out.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and clear the glove box

• Open the glove box fully and remove any contents by hand.
• Use a flashlight so you can see the sides and back clearly.

Step 2: Release the glove box stops

• Push inward on the right side of the glove box with your hand to clear the plastic “stop,” then do the same on the left side.
• Let the glove box swing downward slowly.
• Go slow—plastic tabs break easily.

Step 3: Unhook the glove box damper (if equipped)

• On the right side, look for a small arm/strap (the “damper,” which slows the glove box drop).
• Use a plastic trim removal tool (specialty) to gently pop it off its pin if it won’t slide off by hand. (A trim tool is a plastic pry tool that helps remove clips without scratching.)

Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access cover

• Behind the glove box, locate the rectangular cabin filter cover.
• If it has squeeze-tabs, press them by hand and pull the cover off.
• If your cover uses screws, remove them with a Phillips #2 screwdriver, then pull the cover off.

Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter

• Pull the filter straight out by hand.
• Use a flashlight to check which way the airflow arrow is pointing before you remove it.
• Use a small shop vacuum to lightly vacuum any leaves/debris inside the housing.

Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter

• Slide the new filter into the slot by hand.
• Match the airflow direction arrow to the housing/old filter orientation (usually “AIR FLOW” points downward toward the blower).
• Don’t crush the filter—it should slide in smoothly.

Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box

• Reinstall the cabin filter cover by hand until it clicks, or tighten screws with a Phillips #2 screwdriver snugly (do not overtighten).
• Reattach the damper on the right side by hand.
• Push the glove box sides inward again and lift it back up past the stops.
• Close the glove box.

• Start the engine and run the blower on high for 30 seconds.
• Confirm airflow is stronger and there are no rattles behind the glove box.
• If you hear a ticking noise, recheck that the filter cover is fully seated.
