đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Open the passenger door for easier access to the glove box area.
- Remove items from the glove box so nothing falls out when it drops down.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and empty the glove box
- Open the glove box fully by hand.
- Remove all contents so they don’t spill.
- Use a flashlight to see the right-side damper and filter access area.
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper
- On the right side of the glove box, locate the small “damper” arm (it slows the glove box as it opens).
- Use a trim removal tool (plastic) to gently pry the damper off its pin (do not yank it).
- Tip: Pry close to the clip, not the middle.
Step 3: Release the glove box stops and lower it
- With the glove box open, press inward on both glove box side walls with your hands to clear the plastic “stops.”
- Let the glove box swing downward slowly.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter cover
- Behind the lowered glove box, find the cabin filter access door/cover (rectangular panel).
- Use a trim removal tool (plastic) (or your fingers) to press the locking tabs and pull the cover off.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Put on nitrile gloves and a dust mask.
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Note the airflow arrow on the filter frame (you’ll match this on the new filter).
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Compare the new filter to the old one to confirm the same size.
- Install the new filter in the same direction as the old one, matching the airflow arrow.
- Make sure it seats fully and isn’t folded or pinched.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the filter cover by hand until the tabs click into place.
- Lift the glove box back up and press the side walls inward again so the stops pass back into position.
- Reattach the damper arm to its pin by hand (use the flashlight if needed).
âś… After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and run the blower fan at all speeds to confirm normal airflow and no rattles.
- Make sure the glove box opens/closes smoothly and “soft opens” (damper working).
- If you notice a musty smell, run A/C for a few minutes on fresh air (not recirculate).
