šŸ”§ Palisade - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Your Palisade’s cabin air filter cleans the air coming through the A/C and heater vents. Replacing it helps airflow and reduces dust/pollen odors inside the cabin.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the ignition OFF before working under the dash.
  • āš ļø Keep fingers clear when lowering the glove box.
  • āš ļø No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Flashlight

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Remove items from the glove box so nothing falls out.
  • Tip: Take a quick photo before removing parts.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and empty the glove box

  • Open the glove box fully and remove manuals and loose items by hand.
  • Use a flashlight to look along the right side of the glove box for the small ā€œdamperā€ arm (a little soft-close strap/arm that slows the glove box).

Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper arm

  • On the right side, gently pull the damper arm off its peg by hand.
  • If it’s tight, carefully pry at the clip with a small flathead screwdriver just enough to pop it free.
  • Tip: Pry gently to avoid snapping the clip.

Step 3: Lower the glove box past the side stops

  • With the damper disconnected, squeeze the glove box sides inward by hand to release the built-in ā€œstopsā€ (the plastic tabs that normally prevent it from dropping).
  • Let the glove box swing down slowly.

Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door

  • Behind the glove box you’ll see the cabin filter housing door.
  • Press the locking tabs and remove the door by hand.
  • Use a flashlight so you can clearly see the tabs and direction.

Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Slide the old filter straight out by hand.
  • Keep it level so dirt doesn’t spill into the housing.
  • Tip: Check for leaves before installing new.

Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter (correct direction)

  • Look for the airflow arrow printed on the side of the new filter.
  • Install it with the arrow pointing down (toward the floor), which is the normal airflow direction on your Palisade’s HVAC box.
  • Slide it in evenly so it doesn’t fold or bind.

Step 7: Reinstall the access door

  • Reinstall the housing door by hand until the tabs click into place.
  • Gently tug the door to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 8: Reposition the glove box and reconnect the damper

  • Lift the glove box back up and squeeze the sides inward to get the stops back past the dash opening.
  • Reconnect the damper arm to its peg by hand (you should feel it snap on).

Step 9: Final check

  • Close the glove box and make sure it opens/closes smoothly.
  • Start the vehicle and run the blower on a medium setting to confirm normal airflow.

āœ… After Repair

  • Turn the A/C fan to high for 10-15 seconds and listen for any rattling (a sign the door isn’t fully clipped in).
  • If you had musty odors, run fresh air (not recirculation) for a few minutes.
