🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and empty the glove box
- Open the glove box fully and remove anything inside so nothing falls out.
- Use a flashlight to look along the right side and back of the glove box area.
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper
- On the right side of the glove box, find the small “damper” arm (it slows the glove box from dropping fast).
- Use a trim clip tool to gently pop the damper arm off its peg.
Step 3: Drop the glove box down
- Push inward on both sides of the glove box to release the side stops.
- Lower the glove box down slowly.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter cover
- Behind the glove box, locate the rectangular cabin filter housing cover.
- Release the cover clips by hand; if a screw is present on your cover, remove it with a Phillips screwdriver.
- Set the cover aside where it won’t get stepped on.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Note the airflow direction marking on the old filter frame (usually an arrow). Use the flashlight to see the marking clearly.
- Tip: Keep it level to avoid dumping debris.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Put on nitrile gloves.
- Slide the new filter into the housing with the airflow arrow pointing the same way as the old one (typically AIR FLOW points downward in this style of housing).
- Make sure the filter sits flat and fully seated—no corners folded.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover and snap the clips back in place by hand.
- If your cover used a screw, install it with a Phillips screwdriver until snug (do not over-tighten).
- Lift the glove box back up, push in the sides to pass the stops, and reconnect the damper arm by pressing it onto the peg.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and run the blower on all speeds to confirm good airflow.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation and listen for any rubbing noises.
- If airflow seems weak, re-check that the filter isn’t installed backwards or pinched.
