š Before You Begin
- Park your Traverse on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Move the front passenger seat back to give yourself room.
- Empty the glove box so nothing falls out when it drops down.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and clear the glove box
- Open the glove box fully by hand.
- Remove any items inside so they donāt spill.
- Use a flashlight to look at the right side of the glove box area so you can spot the small ādamperā arm.
Step 2: Release the glove box damper
- On the right side, locate the glove box damper (a small plastic arm that slows the glove box as it opens).
- Carefully pop it off its pin using a plastic trim removal tool (specialty).
- Go slow; itās easy to snap.
Step 3: Lower the glove box past the stops
- Find the glove box āstopsā (the plastic tabs on the sides that prevent it from dropping all the way down).
- Gently squeeze the sides of the glove box inward with your hands to clear the stops.
- Let the glove box rotate downward toward the floor.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the glove box, find the rectangular cabin filter cover.
- Release the cover tabs with your fingers or a plastic trim removal tool (specialty), then remove the cover.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Pull the filter straight out.
- Wear nitrile glovesāthe old filter can be dusty.
- Note the airflow arrow printed on the filter (this shows which way air flows).
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Slide the new cabin air filter into the slot in the same direction as the old one.
- Make sure it seats fully and isnāt bent or folded.
- If the new filter has an āAir Flowā arrow, match it to the direction shown/used previously.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover and press until the tabs click into place.
- Lift the glove box back up and squeeze the sides inward again to pass the stops back into position.
- Reconnect the damper arm by pressing it back onto its pin by hand (use a flashlight if needed to align it).
ā After Repair
- Start your Traverse and run the fan at different speeds to confirm strong airflow.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to make sure there are no odd noises behind the glove box.
- If you notice a whistle, re-check that the filter is fully seated and the cover is clipped in evenly.
