🔧 Cabin Air Filter - Replacement

Your cabin air filter keeps dust, pollen, and road debris out of the air inside your vehicle. On your Sierra, the filter sits behind the glove box area and can usually be changed without removing major trim.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 15-25 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before starting.
  • Open the passenger door fully so you have room to work.
  • Use care around the glove box door so the hinges and stops do not break.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim removal tool
  • Flashlight
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Make sure the ignition is off.
  • Have the new filter ready before removing the old one.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the glove box

  • Use your hands to open the passenger-side glove box fully.
  • Empty the glove box if needed so it does not fall or bind.
  • Support the door as you lower it.

Step 2: Release the glove box stops

  • Use a trim removal tool to gently press inward on the glove box side stops if they do not release by hand.
  • Lower the glove box door carefully until it hangs down and exposes the filter access cover.

Step 3: Remove the cabin filter access cover

  • Use your hands to release the access cover tabs behind the glove box.
  • Pull the cover straight out so the tabs do not snap.

Step 4: Remove the old filter

  • Use your hands to slide the cabin air filter out of the housing.
  • Note the airflow direction arrow on the old filter before removing it.
  • Match the arrow on the new filter.

Step 5: Install the new filter

  • Use your hands to slide the new cabin air filter into the housing in the same direction as the old one.
  • Make sure it sits flat and fully seated.

Step 6: Reinstall the access cover

  • Use your hands to snap the access cover back into place.
  • Make sure both tabs are locked.

Step 7: Reinstall the glove box

  • Raise the glove box back into position by hand.
  • Push the side stops back into place until the glove box opens and closes normally.
  • Check that the door latches properly.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the blower on and check airflow from the vents.
  • Listen for rattles from the glove box area.
  • If air flow still seems weak, check that the filter is fully seated and not folded.
