🔧 Tiguan - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Your A/C and heat pull air through the cabin air filter before it enters the vents. Replacing it restores airflow, reduces odors, and helps keep dust and pollen out of the cabin.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions

- ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of trim clips; they can pinch when snapping in.
- ⚠️ If you’ll be working upside down in the footwell, wear safety glasses to avoid dust falling into your eyes.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the passenger footwell area
- Slide the passenger seat all the way back by hand.
- Use a flashlight to look up under the glovebox area.
Step 2: Remove the lower glovebox/footwell trim panel (if equipped)
- Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pop the trim panel loose.

- Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.
Step 3: Remove the cabin filter cover
- Locate the rectangular filter cover under/behind the glovebox area.
- Release the retaining tabs by hand (or carefully with the plastic trim removal tool if tight).
- Pull the cover straight off and set it aside.
Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Pull the filter out slowly by hand.
- Keep it level as you remove it to reduce dust spilling.
Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter
- Check the airflow arrow on the filter frame.
- Install it in the same direction as the old one came out (airflow arrow must match the housing direction).
- Slide the filter fully into the slot so it sits flat and doesn’t fold.
Step 6: Reinstall the cover and trim panel
- Reinstall the filter cover by lining it up and pressing until the tabs click in.
- Reinstall any screws using a Torx T20 screwdriver.
- Reattach the trim panel by lining up the clips and pressing firmly by hand.
✅ After Repair
- Start your A/C and run the blower on high for 30 seconds.
