🔧 Sienna - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Your Sienna’s cabin air filter cleans the air going through the HVAC (heat/AC) system. Replacing it helps airflow, reduces odors, and keeps dust/pollen out of the cabin.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
  • ⚠️ Avoid forcing the glove box—plastic tabs can snap.
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Plastic trim tool set
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the HVAC system OFF (fan off) before you start.
  • Empty the glove box so nothing falls out.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and clear the glove box

  • Open the glove box fully and remove any contents.
  • Use a flashlight to look along the sides for the glove box “stop” tabs.

Step 2: Release the glove box so it can swing down

  • Gently push in on the glove box sides by hand to clear the stops so the glove box can drop down.
  • If there’s a small damper arm (a little strut) on the right side, pop it off gently using a plastic trim tool set. (A damper arm is a small link that slows the glove box opening.)

Step 3: Remove the cabin filter access cover

  • Behind the dropped glove box, locate the rectangular cabin filter housing cover.
  • Press the tabs and remove the cover by hand. If it’s tight, use a plastic trim tool set to help pry lightly.

Step 4: Pull out the old cabin filter

  • Slide the old filter straight out of the housing using nitrile gloves.
  • Keep it level so leaves/dust don’t spill into the housing.

Step 5: Install the new cabin filter in the correct direction

  • Look for the airflow arrow on the filter frame.
  • Install it so the arrow matches the airflow direction shown on the housing (typically “down” in this position).
  • Match arrows before sliding it in.

Step 6: Reassemble the glove box

  • Reinstall the filter housing cover by hand until it clicks.
  • Raise the glove box back up and push the sides in to pass the stops.
  • Reattach the damper arm (if equipped) by pressing it back on by hand; use a plastic trim tool set only if needed.

âś… After Repair

  • Start the Sienna and turn the fan to medium/high to confirm strong airflow.
  • Listen for any rattles behind the glove box (a sign the cover isn’t fully clipped in).
  • If there’s an odor, run fresh-air mode (not recirc) for a few minutes.

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost
