🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and empty the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove anything inside so it doesn’t spill.
- Use a flashlight to look at the right side of the glove box for the “damper” arm (a small support that slows the glove box).
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper arm
- The damper is a small arm on the right side of the glove box. It typically clips onto a pin.
- Use a plastic trim tool set (specialty) to gently pop the damper off its pin if it’s tight. A trim tool is a plastic pry tool that helps release clips without scratching.
Step 3: Drop the glove box down
- With the glove box open, press in on both sides of the glove box near the top to clear the stop tabs.
- Lower the glove box slowly until it swings down toward the floor.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access cover
- Behind the glove box you’ll see a rectangular filter housing cover.
- Use your fingers or the plastic trim tool set (specialty) to release the side clips and remove the cover.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the filter (or filter tray) straight out of the housing.
- Keep it level to avoid dumping leaves and dust into the blower area.
- Old filters can be very dusty—wear gloves.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter (correct direction)
- Look for an “AIR FLOW” arrow on the side of the new filter.
- Install it the same way the old one came out, with the airflow arrow pointing in the correct direction (usually downward toward the blower on this setup).
- Slide the filter fully in so it sits flat and doesn’t buckle.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the filter housing cover and press until the clips click into place.
- Lift the glove box back up, press in the sides again to pass the stop tabs, and let it close normally.
- Reconnect the glove box damper arm on the right side by pressing it back onto its pin.
âś… After Repair
- Start the engine and run the fan at all speeds to confirm strong airflow and no rattles.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to make sure nothing is binding behind the glove box.
- If you notice a musty smell, run A/C on fresh air for a few minutes to help clear moisture.
