🔧 Murano - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Your Murano’s cabin air filter cleans the air that comes through the A/C and heater vents. Replacing it helps airflow, reduces musty smells, and keeps dust/pollen down inside the cabin.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🧤 Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
- 🧠 Don’t force plastic trim—warm cabin plastics are less likely to break.
- ⚡ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the glove box area
- Open the glove box fully.
- Use a flashlight to look at the right side of the glove box for the small “damper” arm (a little soft-open linkage).
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper
- Use a nylon trim removal tool set to gently pry the damper arm off its peg (or unclip it, depending on your clip style).
- Tip: Pry gently near the peg, not the arm.
Step 3: Drop the glove box down
- On the left and right inside edges of the glove box, push the sides inward with your hands to clear the stops.
- Let the glove box swing downward so you can see behind it.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access cover
- Locate the cabin filter cover behind the glove box (a small rectangular door on the HVAC case).
- Release the cover tabs by hand, or use a nylon trim removal tool set if space is tight.
- If your cover uses a screw, remove it with a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Keep it level so debris doesn’t spill into the housing.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Check the airflow direction arrow printed on the filter frame.
- Install it in the same direction as the old one came out (usually arrow pointing down on this style of housing).
- Slide the filter in until it sits fully flat in the slot (don’t bend it hard).
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the filter cover until the tabs click into place.
- If removed, reinstall the screw with a Phillips #2 screwdriver (snug only—do not over-tighten into plastic).
- Lift the glove box back up, push the sides inward again, and let the stops pass back into position.
- Reconnect the damper arm by pressing it back onto its peg.
✅ After Repair
- 🌀 Start the engine and run the blower on medium, then high, to confirm strong airflow.
- 👃 If there was a smell issue, run A/C for a few minutes and verify it improves.
- 🔍 Make sure the glove box opens/closes smoothly and the soft-open damper works.
