🔧 RX350 - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Your RX350’s cabin air filter cleans the air coming through the A/C and heater vents. Replacing it helps reduce musty smells, improves airflow, and keeps dust/pollen out of the cabin.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key fob from the cabin
  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of glove box hinges and dampers when releasing clips
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this repair

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nylon trim removal tool set
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Flashlight
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to P
  • Turn the climate system OFF and the ignition OFF
  • Empty the glove box so nothing falls out during removal

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and clear the glove box

  • Open the glove box fully and remove all contents by hand.
  • Use a flashlight to look along the right side for the glove box damper (the small “slow-open” arm).

Step 2: Release the glove box damper

  • On the right side of the glove box, gently pop the damper off its pin using a nylon trim removal tool set (a plastic pry tool that helps prevent scratches).
  • If it’s tight, carefully assist with a small flathead screwdriver while protecting the plastic with the trim tool.

Step 3: Drop the glove box down

  • Press the glove box sides inward with your hands to clear the built-in stops.
  • Let the glove box swing downward slowly.
  • Tip: Push one side at a time.

Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access cover

  • Behind the glove box, locate the rectangular cabin filter cover.
  • Press the cover’s side tabs and remove the cover by hand.
  • Use a flashlight so you can clearly see the tabs and avoid breaking them.

Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Slide the filter straight out by hand.
  • Wear nitrile gloves—the old filter can be dusty.
  • Note the airflow direction arrow on the filter frame (you must match this on the new filter).

Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Insert the new filter into the housing by hand.
  • Match the old filter’s orientation, using the airflow direction arrow as your guide.
  • Make sure it seats flat and doesn’t buckle.

Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Reinstall the cabin filter cover by hand until the tabs click into place.
  • Lift the glove box back up and press the sides inward to pass the stops again.
  • Reconnect the damper to its pin on the right side using your hands (assist gently with the nylon trim removal tool set if needed).

âś… After Repair

  • Start the RX350 and run the blower on medium for 30 seconds
  • Check that airflow is strong and there are no rattles behind the glove box
  • If you notice a musty smell, run A/C with fresh air mode for a few minutes
