🔧 Niro - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Your cabin air filter cleans the air that comes through your A/C and heater. Replacing it helps improve airflow, reduce musty smells, and keep dust/pollen out of the cabin.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Power the vehicle fully OFF before starting (don’t leave it in READY).
  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the glove box hinges and side damper while lowering it.
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Plastic trim tool (optional)

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and make sure the vehicle is OFF.
  • Turn the climate system off so the blower fan isn’t running.
  • Open the passenger door and clear out the glove box.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Empty and open the glove box

  • Open the glove box and remove everything inside.
  • Use a flashlight so you can see the sides and back clearly.

Step 2: Unhook the glove box damper

  • On the right side of the glove box, find the small “damper” arm (a little slow-down strap that controls how the glove box drops).
  • Gently pop the damper off its peg by hand; if it’s tight, use a plastic trim tool (optional) to pry carefully.
  • Go slow to avoid snapping plastic.

Step 3: Lower the glove box past the side stops

  • With the glove box open, press in on both side walls of the glove box to clear the rubber/plastic “stops.”
  • Let the glove box swing down fully.
  • Use nitrile gloves if the area is dusty.

Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access cover

  • Behind the glove box you’ll see a rectangular cover for the cabin filter housing.
  • Release the locking tabs by hand and pull the cover off; use a flashlight to confirm all tabs are free.
  • There are no torque specs here—these are hand-release plastic clips.

Step 5: Replace the cabin air filter

  • Slide the old filter straight out.
  • Check the airflow arrow on the filter frame (usually marked “AIR FLOW”). Install the new filter the same direction.
  • If the housing has “UP” or “AIR FLOW” markings, match them exactly.

Step 6: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Reinstall the filter cover and press until the tabs click fully into place.
  • Lift the glove box back up, press the sides in again, and re-seat the side stops.
  • Reattach the right-side damper arm by hand until it snaps onto the peg.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the vehicle and run the blower on medium-high for 30 seconds.
  • Confirm normal airflow from the vents and no rattles behind the glove box.
  • If you notice a whistling sound, the filter may not be seated flat—recheck the cover and filter orientation.

💰 DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: ₹1,500-₹3,500 (parts + labor)
