🔧 Niro - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Your cabin air filter cleans the air that comes through your A/C and heater. Replacing it helps improve airflow, reduce musty smells, and keep dust/pollen out of the cabin.

⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Power the vehicle fully OFF before starting (don’t leave it in READY).
- ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the glove box hinges and side damper while lowering it.
- ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this job.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and make sure the vehicle is OFF.
- Turn the climate system off so the blower fan isn’t running.
- Open the passenger door and clear out the glove box.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Empty and open the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove everything inside.
- Use a flashlight so you can see the sides and back clearly.
Step 2: Unhook the glove box damper
- On the right side of the glove box, find the small “damper” arm (a little slow-down strap that controls how the glove box drops).
- Gently pop the damper off its peg by hand; if it’s tight, use a plastic trim tool (optional) to pry carefully.
- Go slow to avoid snapping plastic.
Step 3: Lower the glove box past the side stops
- With the glove box open, press in on both side walls of the glove box to clear the rubber/plastic “stops.”
- Let the glove box swing down fully.
- Use nitrile gloves if the area is dusty.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access cover
- Behind the glove box you’ll see a rectangular cover for the cabin filter housing.
- Release the locking tabs by hand and pull the cover off; use a flashlight to confirm all tabs are free.
- There are no torque specs here—these are hand-release plastic clips.
Step 5: Replace the cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Check the airflow arrow on the filter frame (usually marked “AIR FLOW”). Install the new filter the same direction.
- If the housing has “UP” or “AIR FLOW” markings, match them exactly.
Step 6: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the filter cover and press until the tabs click fully into place.
- Lift the glove box back up, press the sides in again, and re-seat the side stops.
- Reattach the right-side damper arm by hand until it snaps onto the peg.
✅ After Repair
- Start the vehicle and run the blower on medium-high for 30 seconds.
- Confirm normal airflow from the vents and no rattles behind the glove box.
- If you notice a whistling sound, the filter may not be seated flat—recheck the cover and filter orientation.
