🔧 TITAN - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Your TITAN’s cabin air filter cleans the air coming through the HVAC vents (A/C and heat). Replacing it helps airflow, reduces dust/pollen, and can cut down on musty odors.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Don’t force plastic tabs; they can snap in cold weather.
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim clip/panel removal tool
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Flashlight
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Open the passenger door for more working room.
  • Set the HVAC system to OFF (fan off) before removal.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and clear the glove box

  • Open the glove box and remove any items so nothing falls behind it.
  • Use a flashlight to look along the right side of the glove box for the small “damper” arm (a little slow-down strap).

Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper arm

  • On the right side, gently unclip the damper arm from the glove box using a trim clip/panel removal tool.
  • If it’s tight, carefully help it off with a small flathead screwdriver. Go slow to avoid breaking the clip.

Step 3: Let the glove box swing down

  • Push the glove box sides inward (near the stops) with your hands so it can drop down farther.
  • Lower it until you can see the cabin filter access door behind it.

Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door

  • Locate the rectangular filter cover and press the locking tab(s) to release it.
  • If the tab is stubborn, use the small flathead screwdriver gently to press the tab while pulling the cover off by hand.

Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Pull the filter straight out by hand while wearing nitrile gloves.
  • Note the airflow direction marking printed on the filter (usually an arrow). Use the flashlight to spot it if it’s dusty.

Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Install the new filter in the same orientation as the old one, matching the airflow arrow direction.
  • Slide it fully into the slot so it sits flat and doesn’t buckle.

Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Reinstall the filter access door by hand until it clicks into place.
  • Lift the glove box back up, push the sides inward again if needed, and let it re-seat on its stops.
  • Reconnect the damper arm on the right side by pressing it back onto its peg until it snaps in.

✅ After Repair

  • Start your TITAN and turn the fan to medium-high to confirm strong airflow and no rattles.
  • Switch between fresh air and recirculation to make sure the door sounds normal.
  • If you hear a ticking/rubbing noise, recheck that the filter is fully seated and not bent.
