🔧 Cabin Air Filter - Replacement

The cabin air filter on your Tundra sits behind the glove box. Replacing it helps improve airflow from the vents and keeps dust, pollen, and debris out of the HVAC system.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before starting.
  • Let the glove box close slowly so it does not drop and crack.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this job.
  • Work gently around the glove box damper.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim tool or small flat screwdriver
  • Flashlight
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the glove box and clear out any contents.
  • Have the new filter ready before removing the old one.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and support the glove box

  • Open the glove box fully.
  • Use your hands to gently press in on both sides of the glove box so it drops past the stops.
  • If needed, use a trim tool or small flat screwdriver carefully to help release the side stops.
  • Lower it slowly and let it hang down.

Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper

  • Use your fingers to unhook the small damper arm on the right side of the glove box.
  • Set the damper aside so it does not get damaged.
  • Do not force the plastic clip.

Step 3: Remove the cabin air filter cover

  • Look behind the glove box for the rectangular cabin filter cover.
  • Use your fingers to release the retaining tabs and remove the cover.
  • Keep the cover in a safe place.

Step 4: Remove the old filter

  • Slide the old cabin air filter straight out.
  • Watch the airflow arrow on the filter so you can install the new one the same way.
  • If the filter is dirty, vacuum loose debris from the housing with a shop vacuum if available.

Step 5: Install the new filter

  • Insert the new cabin air filter into the housing.
  • Make sure the airflow arrow points in the same direction as the old filter.
  • Push it in fully so it sits flat.

Step 6: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Reinstall the filter cover until the tabs click into place.
  • Reconnect the glove box damper arm by hand.
  • Lift the glove box back up and press in the sides to let it return to normal position.
  • Open and close the glove box once to confirm it moves smoothly.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the HVAC fan and check that airflow is strong.
  • Listen for any rattles behind the glove box.
  • If airflow is still weak, recheck the filter direction and seating.
