🔧 ProMaster - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Your A/C and heater pull air through a cabin air filter before it enters the vents. Replacing it helps airflow, reduces odors, and keeps dust/pollen out of the cabin.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes
Assumption: Your ProMaster is equipped with a cabin filter access door behind the glove box.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working under the dash.
- ⚠️ Use gentle pressure—glove box/dash plastics can crack if forced.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Empty and open the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove anything inside so it doesn’t fall out.
- Use a flashlight to look behind/under the glove box area.
Step 2: Lower/remove the glove box (if needed)
- If the glove box has side stops, gently push the glove box sides inward by hand so it can swing down farther.
- If a trim panel is in the way, carefully pry it with a trim removal tool (plastic).
- Go slow—plastic clips release with steady pressure.
Step 3: Locate the cabin filter access door
- Use a flashlight to find a small rectangular access cover behind the glove box (HVAC housing area).
- The cover typically has locking tabs on the sides.
Step 4: Remove the filter cover
- Use your fingers or a trim removal tool (plastic) to press the locking tabs and pull the cover off.
- Set the cover aside where it won’t get stepped on.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Put on nitrile gloves and pull the filter straight out.
- If it’s packed with leaves, pull it out slowly to avoid dumping debris into the blower housing.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Check the airflow direction arrow on the filter frame.
- Install the new filter in the same direction as the old one came out (match the arrow).
- Slide it fully into place—don’t bend or crush it.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the access cover by hand until it clicks into place.
- Lift the glove box back up and re-engage the side stops (push sides inward again if needed).
- If you removed any trim, press it back in by hand until clips snap in.
âś… After Repair
- Start the engine and run the blower on all speeds to confirm strong airflow and no rattles.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to confirm the air sounds normal.
- If you hear whistling, the cover may not be fully seated.
