šŸ”§ TITAN XD - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Your TITAN XD’s cabin air filter cleans the air that comes through the HVAC vents (A/C and heat). Replacing it helps reduce dust, odors, and weak airflow, and it can prevent the blower motor from working harder than it should.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 15-30 minutes

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
  • āš ļø Turn the ignition OFF and keep the key away from the truck while working near the passenger airbag area.
  • āš ļø Do not probe or unplug any yellow airbag connectors under the dash.
  • Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Plastic trim removal tool
  • Phillips #2 screwdriver
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver
  • Flashlight

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Open the passenger door and slide the passenger seat back for more room.
  • Remove items from the glove box so nothing falls out during the job.
  • Have a flashlight ready; it’s tucked up under the dash.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the glove box area

  • Open the glove box fully.
  • Use a flashlight to look behind/around the glove box for the cabin filter access panel.

Step 2: Lower/remove the glove box (if equipped with stops)

  • On many TITAN XD setups, the glove box has side ā€œstopsā€ that keep it from dropping.
  • Use your hands (or a plastic trim removal tool if tight) to gently push the glove box sides inward so the stops clear, then let the glove box swing downward.
  • If there’s a small damper arm on the right side, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to gently release it. (A damper is a small arm that slows the glove box from dropping.)

Step 3: Remove the cabin filter cover

  • Locate the rectangular cabin filter door behind the lowered glove box.
  • Release the tabs by hand; if needed, gently help the tab with a small flat-blade screwdriver.
  • If your truck uses screws on the cover, remove them with a Phillips #2 screwdriver.

Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Pull the filter straight out by hand.
  • Keep it level as you remove it to avoid dumping leaves and dust into the housing.
  • If it’s packed with debris, pull slowly.

Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter (correct direction)

  • Check the airflow arrow printed on the filter frame.
  • Install the filter in the same direction as the old one came out (airflow arrow must match the housing’s airflow direction).
  • Slide it fully in until it seats evenly (no bending or buckling).

Step 6: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Reinstall the cabin filter door until the tabs click in place.
  • If screws were removed, reinstall them using a Phillips #2 screwdriver (snug only—do not overtighten).
  • Reattach the glove box damper (if removed) using the small flat-blade screwdriver to guide it back into place.
  • Lift the glove box back up and push the sides inward so the stops go back past the opening.

āœ… After Repair

  • Start the truck and run the blower on medium, then high, to confirm strong airflow.
  • Switch between fresh air and recirculation and listen for any rattles (a rattling sound can mean the filter door isn’t fully latched).
  • If you smell mustiness, run A/C for a few minutes.

šŸ’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $60-$150 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $15-$40 (parts only)
