🔧 Outlander Sport - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Your Outlander Sport’s cabin air filter cleans the air coming through the HVAC (heat/AC) system. Replacing it restores airflow, reduces musty smells, and helps keep dust and pollen out of the cabin.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Empty and open the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove anything inside.
- Use a flashlight to look along the right side of the glove box for a small “damper” arm (a little plastic arm that slows the glove box as it opens).
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper arm
- If equipped, gently pry the damper arm off its pin using a trim clip tool.
- Go slow—this clip is easy to snap.
Step 3: Drop the glove box down
- Push in on both sides of the glove box (near the upper corners) to clear the “stops,” then let the glove box swing downward.
- If your glove box has a retaining screw/strap, remove it using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter door
- Behind the glove box, find the rectangular cabin filter cover.
- Press the locking tabs and pull the cover off by hand. Use nitrile gloves to keep dust off your hands.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Use the flashlight to check the filter slot for leaves and debris and remove anything loose by hand.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Check the airflow arrow on the filter frame.
- Install it in the same direction as the original (airflow arrow should match the direction of airflow through the housing).
- If it buckles, pull out and re-seat it.
Step 7: Reinstall the filter door and glove box
- Reinstall the filter cover until both tabs click in.
- Swing the glove box back up and snap the side stops back into place.
- Reconnect the damper arm by hand; use a trim clip tool only if needed.
- If removed, reinstall any screw/strap using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and run the blower fan on medium, then high, to confirm strong airflow and no rattles.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to confirm the door area stays quiet.
- If you smell dust, run the fan 1-2 minutes.
