🔧 ES350 - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Your cabin air filter cleans the air that comes through the A/C and heater vents. Replacing it helps airflow, reduces odors, and keeps dust/pollen out of the cabin.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the cabin before starting.
- ⚠️ Use gentle pressure on glove box tabs and plastic clips to avoid breaking them.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

- Empty the glove box so nothing falls out.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and clear the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove all items.
- Use a flashlight to locate the glove box side “damper” arm (a small support arm that slows the glove box when it opens) on the right side.
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper arm
- Use a trim removal tool (plastic) to gently pry the damper arm off its pin (or unclip it, depending on the style).
- Go slow—plastic clips can snap.
Step 3: Drop the glove box down
- Press inward on both glove box side walls with your hands to clear the side stops.
- Lower the glove box fully so you can see the HVAC filter housing behind it.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Locate the rectangular filter cover behind the glove box.
- Release the cover tabs by hand; if it’s tight, use a trim removal tool (plastic) to help start the tab.
- Remove the cover and set it aside.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the filter straight out.
- Keep it level to avoid dumping leaves/debris into the housing.
- If it’s very dirty, vacuum the area first.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Check the airflow arrow printed on the filter frame.
- Install it in the same direction as the old one (typically arrow pointing DOWN toward the floor on this style housing).
- Slide it in until it seats fully and evenly.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the filter cover by hand until both sides click.
- Lift the glove box back up, then press in on the sides again to pass the stops and close it normally.
- Reconnect the damper arm by pushing it back onto its pin/clip (use your hands; use a trim removal tool (plastic) only if needed).
- If any small screw was present on your damper/cover area, reinstall it using a Phillips screwdriver #2.
âś… After Repair
- Start the engine and run the blower on medium-high to confirm strong airflow and no rattles.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculate to ensure the glove box area is not interfering with anything.
- If you notice a musty smell, run A/C for a few minutes; the new filter may take a short drive to fully “freshen” airflow.
