🔧 F-150 - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

- Have a small trash bag ready.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and empty the glove box
- Open the glove box fully and remove contents by hand.
- Use a flashlight to look along the right side for the glove box “damper” (a small strap/arm that slows the glove box). Damper = the little arm that controls the drop speed.
Step 2: Detach the glove box damper
- Carefully pop the damper end off its pin using a trim removal tool (plastic).
- Set the damper aside so it isn’t pulling on the glove box.
Step 3: Lower the glove box past the stops
- Gently push in on both sides of the glove box (near the side walls) with your hands to clear the built-in stops.
- Let the glove box swing downward toward the floor.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the glove box, locate the rectangular cabin filter cover.
- Release the cover tabs by hand (use a trim removal tool (plastic) only if needed).
- Remove the cover and set it aside.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Put on nitrile gloves.
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Keep it level to avoid dumping leaves and dust into the housing.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Check the airflow arrow on the new filter frame.
- Install it in the same direction as the old one (airflow arrow should match the vehicle’s airflow direction printed on the housing/cover, if present).
- Slide the filter fully into the slot without crushing the pleats.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the filter cover and snap the tabs in place by hand.
- Lift the glove box back up and push in on the sides to get past the stops again.
- Reconnect the damper to its pin by hand (use the trim removal tool (plastic) only if necessary).
✅ After Repair
- Start the truck and run the blower on high for 15–30 seconds.
- Verify airflow is stronger and there are no rattles from the glove box area.
- If it whistles, reseat the filter and cover.
