š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Open the passenger door and move the passenger seat back for space.
- Have a trash bag ready for dusty debris.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and empty the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove any items so nothing falls out.
- Use a flashlight to look at the right side of the glove box for the small ādamperā arm (a slow-down strap).
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper
- Carefully pry the damper off its pin using a plastic trim removal tool set.
- If itās tight, use a small flathead screwdriver gently to pop it free. Donāt twist hardāplastic can crack.
Step 3: Lower the glove box fully
- Push inward on both glove box side walls with your hands to clear the stops (the āstopsā are the bumps that normally prevent it from dropping all the way).
- Let the glove box swing down toward the floor.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the glove box, locate the rectangular cabin filter cover.
- Press the coverās side tabs and pull the cover off by hand. Use a flashlight to see the tabs clearly.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the filter straight out.
- Wear nitrile glovesāthe filter can be dirty and dusty.
- Note the airflow arrow on the filter (this shows which way air moves).
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Insert the new filter in the same orientation as the old one.
- Make sure the filter isnāt crushed or folded and sits flat in the housing.
- If it wonāt slide in, donāt force it.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover by hand until the tabs click.
- Lift the glove box back up, then push in the sides again to get past the stops.
- Reconnect the damper arm by pressing it back onto its pin.
ā After Repair
- Start the engine and run the blower fan on medium. Listen for rattles (a sign the cover isnāt clipped in).
- Test A/C and heat airflow from the vents.
- If thereās a whistling noise, re-check that the filter is fully seated.
