🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and clear the glove box
- Open the glove box fully and remove all contents by hand.
- Use a flashlight to look along the right side for the glove box damper (the small “slow-open” arm).
Step 2: Release the glove box damper
- On the right side of the glove box, gently pop the damper off its pin using a nylon trim removal tool set (a plastic pry tool that helps prevent scratches).
- If it’s tight, carefully assist with a small flathead screwdriver while protecting the plastic with the trim tool.
Step 3: Drop the glove box down
- Press the glove box sides inward with your hands to clear the built-in stops.
- Let the glove box swing downward slowly.
- Tip: Push one side at a time.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access cover
- Behind the glove box, locate the rectangular cabin filter cover.
- Press the cover’s side tabs and remove the cover by hand.
- Use a flashlight so you can clearly see the tabs and avoid breaking them.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the filter straight out by hand.
- Wear nitrile gloves—the old filter can be dusty.
- Note the airflow direction arrow on the filter frame (you must match this on the new filter).
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Insert the new filter into the housing by hand.
- Match the old filter’s orientation, using the airflow direction arrow as your guide.
- Make sure it seats flat and doesn’t buckle.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover by hand until the tabs click into place.
- Lift the glove box back up and press the sides inward to pass the stops again.
- Reconnect the damper to its pin on the right side using your hands (assist gently with the nylon trim removal tool set if needed).
âś… After Repair
- Start the RX350 and run the blower on medium for 30 seconds
- Check that airflow is strong and there are no rattles behind the glove box
- If you notice a musty smell, run A/C with fresh air mode for a few minutes
