š Before You Begin
- Park your Tacoma on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key.
- Open the glove box and remove any items so nothing falls out.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lower the glove box
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Use a small flashlight to look at the right side of the glove box for a small ādamperā arm (a little shock/strap that slows the glove box).
- Gently unclip the damper arm from the glove box (do not pry hard).
- Push the glove box sides inward by hand to clear the stops, then let the glove box swing down.
Step 2: Remove the cabin filter housing cover
- Use a small flashlight to locate the rectangular cabin filter housing behind the glove box.
- Press the tabs on the housing cover by hand and pull the cover straight off.
- Tip: Pull evenly so tabs donāt snap.
Step 3: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the filter straight out by hand.
- Keep it level as you remove it to avoid dumping leaves/dust into the blower area.
Step 4: Install the new cabin air filter
- Compare the new filter to the old one to confirm it matches size and shape.
- Install the new filter in the same direction as the old one.
- Look for the airflow arrow on the filter frame; it should point in the direction of airflow (toward the blower). If your filter says āAIR FLOWā, follow that arrow.
- Tip: Donāt crush the pleatsāslide it in gently.
Step 5: Reassemble the glove box
- Reinstall the housing cover by hand until the tabs click.
- Lift the glove box back up, push the sides inward again to pass the stops, and let it close normally.
- Reattach the glove box damper arm by hand.
ā After Repair
- Start your Tacoma and run the fan at all speeds to confirm normal airflow.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculate to confirm the glove box area doesnāt rattle.
- If you notice a musty smell, consider running the A/C for a few minutes and then turning it off with the fan on to help dry the system.
