🔧 Cabin Air Filter - Replacement

Your cabin air filter cleans the air entering the HVAC system. On your Ram, it is behind the glove box, so this is a quick interior service with no fluids or lifting required.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 15-30 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key/fob before starting.
  • Work gently around the glove box to avoid breaking the plastic stops.
  • If the glove box is crowded, remove items first so they do not fall out.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Flashlight
  • Small flat trim tool
  • Gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Switch the ignition off.
  • Open the passenger door for easier access to the glove box area.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and empty the glove box

  • Use your hands to open the glove box fully.
  • Remove any items inside so they do not fall during removal.

Step 2: Release the glove box stop

  • Use your hands to gently squeeze the sides of the glove box inward.
  • This lets the glove box drop past the side stops.
  • Move slowly to avoid cracking the plastic.

Step 3: Lower the glove box

  • Use your hands to lower the glove box fully down.
  • If there is a damper strap on one side, unclip it by hand.

Step 4: Remove the cabin filter cover

  • Use a small flat trim tool to release the filter door tabs if needed.
  • Remove the access cover by hand once the tabs are free.

Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Use your hands to slide the old filter straight out.
  • Note the airflow direction arrow on the filter before removing it.
  • Take a quick photo first if needed.

Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Use your hands to slide the new filter into the housing.
  • Match the airflow arrow on the filter to the direction shown on the housing.
  • Make sure the filter seats flat and fully in place.

Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Use your hands to reinstall the filter cover until it clicks.
  • Raise the glove box back into place.
  • Reattach the damper strap if equipped.
  • Squeeze the sides gently again if needed so the glove box clears the stops.

Step 8: Verify operation

  • Use your hands to close the glove box.
  • Start the vehicle and run the blower fan on high.
  • Check for normal airflow and no rattles.

✅ After Repair

  • Make sure the glove box opens and closes normally.
  • Confirm air comes through the vents without unusual noise.
  • If airflow is still weak, check that the filter is seated correctly.
