🔧 Sentra - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Your Sentra’s cabin air filter cleans the air coming through the heater/AC vents. Replacing it restores airflow, reduces musty smells, and helps the blower motor work easier.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working under the dash.
  • ⚠️ Don’t force plastic tabs—if it won’t move, recheck the clip location.
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Flashlight
  • Trim removal tool (plastic)
  • Work gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Move the passenger seat back to give yourself room to work.
  • Have your flashlight ready—this area is dark.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and empty the glove box

  • Open the glove box and remove anything inside so nothing falls out.
  • Use your flashlight to look at the right side of the glove box area.

Step 2: Unhook the glove box “damper” strap

  • On the right side, find the small arm/strap that slows the glove box (this is the “damper,” a small link that controls how fast the glove box drops).
  • Use a trim removal tool (plastic) to gently pop the damper off its pin.
  • Go slow—this clip is easy to snap.

Step 3: Drop the glove box down

  • Push the glove box sides inward by hand to clear the side stops.
  • Let the glove box swing down toward the floor.
  • Use your flashlight to locate the cabin filter access door behind it.

Step 4: Remove the cabin filter cover

  • Find the rectangular filter cover.
  • Press the tabs and pull the cover off by hand; if needed, gently assist with the trim removal tool (plastic).

Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Slide the filter straight out.
  • Keep it level to avoid dumping dust/leaves into the blower housing.
  • Use your flashlight to check the slot for debris.

Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Look for the airflow arrow on the filter frame.
  • Install it the same direction as the old one (airflow should match the arrow). If you didn’t note it, install so the arrow points toward the blower/housing (into the dash).
  • Slide it in without bending the frame.

Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Reinstall the filter cover by hand until it clicks.
  • Lift the glove box back up and push the sides inward to pass the stops again.
  • Reattach the damper strap using the trim removal tool (plastic) if needed to line it up.

âś… After Repair

  • Start the engine and run the fan on speeds 1–4 to confirm good airflow and no rattles.
  • Switch between fresh air and recirculation to confirm the airflow sounds normal.
  • If you hear a ticking noise, recheck that the filter is fully seated and the cover is clipped in.
