🔧 Forte - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Your A/C and heater pull air through the cabin air filter before it enters the vents. Replacing a dirty filter helps airflow, reduces musty smells, and keeps dust/pollen out of the cabin.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before working under the dash.
- ⚠️ Don’t force plastic tabs—Kia glove box parts can crack if pried hard.
- ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this service.

- Plastic trim tool set

- Cabin air filter - Qty: 1
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park your A4 on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Move the passenger seat back to give yourself room to work.
- Tip: A flashlight makes the “airflow arrow” easy to see.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and empty the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove anything inside so it doesn’t spill.
- Use nitrile gloves if you don’t want to touch dusty parts.
Step 2: Release the glove box travel stops
- Look at the left and right sides of the glove box for the built-in “stops” (little plastic bumpers that limit how far it opens).
- Press the glove box sides inward with your hands so the stops clear the dash opening, then let the glove box swing down farther.
- If a panel edge is tight, use a plastic trim tool set gently to guide it—don’t pry hard.
Step 3: Disconnect the glove box damper (slow-down arm)
- On the right side, you’ll see a small arm that controls how fast the glove box drops (the “damper”).
- Unclip it by hand; if needed, use the plastic trim tool set to pop the clip free gently.
Step 4: Locate and open the cabin filter access door
- Behind the lowered glove box, find the rectangular HVAC filter housing door.
- Use your fingers to press the side tabs and remove the cover.
- Use a flashlight to clearly see the tabs and housing.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the filter straight out by hand.
- Keep it level to avoid dumping leaves and dust into the housing.
- Note the airflow direction arrow on the filter frame (it must match when you install the new one).
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Insert the new filter into the housing in the same orientation as the old one.
- Make sure the filter seats fully and isn’t folded or pinched.
- Tip: “Airflow” usually points downward in this setup.
Step 7: Reinstall the filter cover
- Reinstall the housing door and press until the tabs click into place.
- Use a flashlight to confirm all edges are flush.
Step 8: Reattach the glove box and close it
- Reconnect the damper arm on the right side by hand until it clicks.
- Lift the glove box back up and press the sides inward again to get the stops past the dash opening.
- Close the glove box and verify it opens/closes smoothly.
âś… After Repair
- Start the engine and run the blower on medium/high to confirm strong airflow.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to ensure no new rattles behind the glove box.
- If there’s a musty smell, run A/C for a few minutes—new filters sometimes stir up leftover dust.
