F-150 - Cabin Air Filter Replacement 🌬️

On your 2015 Platinum, the cabin air filter is behind the glove box on the passenger side.

Tools & Parts Needed 🧰

  • 🔧 New cabin air filter (for 2015 F-150, not the engine filter)
  • 🔧 7mm and 8mm socket with ratchet or nut driver (small wrench for the screws)
  • 🔧 Plastic trim tool (a plastic lever to pop panels off without scratching)
  • 🔧 Flashlight

Step 1 – Prepare the truck ⚠️

  • 🔹 Park on level ground, set parking brake, ignition off.
  • 🔹 Empty the glove box so nothing falls out.

Step 2 – Drop the glove box 📦

  • 🔹 Open the glove box fully.
  • 🔹 On each side you’ll see a small plastic stop/arm that keeps it from falling down.
  • 🔹 Gently push the sides of the glove box inward to clear those stops and let the glove box swing down further.
  • 🔹 If there is a small damper arm (little rod on the side), gently unhook it.

Step 3 – Remove the lower panel (if equipped) 🧩

  • 🔹 Look under the glove box; some trucks have a plastic trim panel.
  • 🔹 Remove any 7mm/8mm screws with your socket.
  • 🔹 Use your fingers or trim tool to pop the panel down and off.

Step 4 – Find and open the cabin filter door 🔓

  • 🔹 Behind the glove box, look toward the center of the dash for a rectangular plastic door on the HVAC box (black plastic box for A/C).
  • 🔹 It has small tabs on the sides or bottom.
  • 🔹 Press the tab(s) inward and pull the door off or swing it open.

Step 5 – Remove the old filter 🧹

  • 🔹 Note the direction of the airflow arrow on the old filter before pulling it out.
  • 🔹 Slide the filter straight out; it may flex a bit.
  • 🔹 If you see leaves/dust, gently vacuum the opening.

Step 6 – Install the new filter ✅

  • 🔹 On the new filter, find the “AIRFLOW ↓” arrow.
  • 🔹 On your F-150, the arrow should point down (air flows top to bottom).
  • 🔹 Slide the new filter in carefully so you don’t crush the pleats.
  • 🔹 Make sure it’s fully seated all the way in.

Step 7 – Reassemble 🔁

  • 🔹 Reinstall the cabin filter door and snap the tabs fully.
  • 🔹 Refit the lower trim panel and reinstall any 7mm/8mm screws (just snug).
  • 🔹 Reattach the glove box damper arm if you removed it.
  • 🔹 Push the sides of the glove box in again to get past the stops, then close it.

Step 8 – Test 🌪️

  • 🔹 Turn ignition on, fan on high.
  • 🔹 Switch between vents/floor/defrost and listen for rubbing or whistling.
  • 🔹 If you hear rubbing, the filter may not be seated; reopen and adjust.

Tips 📝

  • 🔹 Replace about once a year, or sooner in dusty areas.
  • 🔹 A carbon cabin filter helps with odors and fumes.

If you tell me what you see behind your glove box (panel, screws, or just the box), I can fine-tune the steps to match exactly.
