🔧 Yukon - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Replacing the cabin air filter keeps dust, pollen, and odors out of the air you breathe. On your Yukon, the filter sits behind the glove box, so the job is mostly removing the glove box stops and swapping the filter.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 15-30 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
- ⚠️ Work gently around plastic tabs; they can crack if forced.
- ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this repair.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty)
- Phillips #2 screwdriver
- Flashlight

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the passenger door for better access to the glove box.
- Empty the glove box so nothing falls out.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and support the glove box
- Open the glove box fully.
- Use a flashlight to look along the right side for the glove box damper (a small arm that slows the glove box).
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper
- If equipped, gently pop the damper arm off its pin using a trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty).
- Go slow—this is a small plastic clip.
Step 3: Release the glove box stops
- Push in on both sides of the glove box to clear the built-in “stops.”
- Once the stops clear, let the glove box swing down toward the floor.
- If you see any screws holding a lower trim panel, remove them with a Phillips #2 screwdriver (some builds vary).
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the lowered glove box, locate the cabin filter cover/door.
- Unclip the cover by hand; if tight, use the trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty) to gently help the tabs release.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Keep it level to avoid dumping debris.
- Use a flashlight to check the housing for leaves/dirt.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Put on nitrile gloves to keep the new filter clean.
- Install the new filter in the same direction as the old one.
- Look for an airflow arrow on the filter frame and match it to the airflow direction shown on the housing (if marked).
Step 7: Reassemble the glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover by hand until all tabs click in.
- Lift the glove box back up and push in the sides again so the stops pass back into place.
- Reconnect the damper arm by pressing it back onto its pin.
- If removed, reinstall any screws using the Phillips #2 screwdriver.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and run the blower on high for 30 seconds.
- Cycle air modes (fresh air/recirculation) and listen for any rattles from the glove box area.
- If airflow still seems weak, re-check that the filter is fully seated and the cover is clipped in evenly.
