š Before You Begin
- Park your Tahoe on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the HVAC system OFF.
- Move the passenger seat back for more working room.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Clear the glove box area
- Remove everything from the glove box so nothing falls out.
- Use a flashlight to locate the glove box sides and the small ādamperā arm.
- Damper = the strap that slows the door.
Step 2: Remove the lower hush panel (under glove box)
- From the passenger footwell, remove the lower panel under the glove box.
- Use a 7mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 3" extension to remove any screws holding the panel.
- Use a trim panel removal tool to gently pop any retaining clips loose, then pull the panel down and out.
- When reinstalling these small interior screws: Torque to 2 Nm (18 in-lbs).
Step 3: Drop the glove box door fully
- Open the glove box.
- On the right side, detach the glove box damper arm.
- Use a trim panel removal tool to gently pry it off the pin if itās tight.
- Push in on both glove box sides to release the āstopsā (the plastic tabs that prevent it from falling open all the way).
- Lower the glove box down so you can access the filter door behind it.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the glove box opening, find the rectangular cabin filter cover.
- Release the cover tabs by hand. If needed, use a trim panel removal tool carefully.
- Pull the cover off and set it aside.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the filter straight out.
- Keep the filter level as you pull it out to avoid dumping debris.
- Tip: Vacuum loose leaves before installing new.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Look for the airflow arrow on the filter frame.
- Install it in the same direction as the original (airflow arrow should match the housingās airflow direction).
- Slide it in fully so it sits flat and doesnāt buckle.
Step 7: Reinstall the access door and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover and press until the tabs click.
- Lift the glove box back up and snap the side stops back into place by pushing the sides inward again.
- Reattach the damper arm on the right side by pressing it onto the pin.
Step 8: Reinstall the lower hush panel
- Position the panel, line up the clips, and press it into place by hand.
- Install any screws with a 7mm socket and 1/4" ratchet.
- Final tighten: Torque to 2 Nm (18 in-lbs).
ā After Repair
- Start your Tahoe and run the blower at all speeds to confirm good airflow.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to ensure no unusual noises.
- If you notice a musty smell, run A/C for a few minutes on fresh air.
