📋 Before You Begin
- Open the passenger door wide and slide the passenger seat back for space.
- Turn the HVAC system off before starting (fan off).
- Have a trash bag ready for dust.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Empty and open the glove box
- Remove items from the glove box so nothing falls out.
- Open the glove box fully.
- Use a flashlight to look along the right side of the glove box for a small “damper” arm (a little shock/strap that slows the glove box). A damper is a small connector that controls how the glove box drops.
Step 2: Release the glove box damper (if equipped)
- If you see a small damper arm on the right side, gently pop it off its pin using a nylon trim removal tool set.
- Do this slowly so you don’t crack the glove box plastic.
Step 3: Drop the glove box down
- Press inward on both sides of the glove box (near the top) to clear the stops.
- Let the glove box rotate downward toward the floor.
- Push one side at a time if it’s tight.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the glove box, locate the rectangular HVAC access cover.
- Release the tabs and remove the cover using your fingers or a nylon trim removal tool set if needed.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Pull the filter straight out.
- Keep it level as you remove it to avoid dumping leaves/dust.
- Use a flashlight to check the filter slot for debris, then wipe it out with a rag if you have one handy.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Compare the new filter to the old one to confirm the same size.
- Install the new filter with the airflow arrow matching the direction shown on the HVAC housing or matching the old filter’s direction.
- Slide it in fully so it sits flat and doesn’t buckle.
Step 7: Reinstall the access door and glove box
- Reinstall the filter access cover and make sure all tabs click in.
- Lift the glove box back up and push the sides inward to get past the stops.
- Reattach the glove box damper (if equipped) by pressing it back onto its pin.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and run the fan at all speeds to confirm good airflow and no rattles.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to confirm the airflow sounds normal.
- If you notice a musty smell, run A/C for a few minutes; the new filter may stir up old dust briefly.
