š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Move the passenger seat back for more room.
- Empty the glove box so nothing falls out.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and clear the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove all contents by hand.
- Use a flashlight to locate the small ādamperā arm on the right side (the damper is a small rod that slows the glove box as it opens).
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper
- Gently pry the damper off its pin using a plastic trim removal tool (non-marring).
- Tip: Pry straight outward, not upward.
Step 3: Lower the glove box past the stops
- With the glove box open, press inward on both sides of the glove box using your hands to release the side āstops.ā
- Let the glove box swing downward slowly.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access cover
- Behind the glove box, find the rectangular cabin filter cover.
- Release the cover tabs by hand; if needed, use the plastic trim removal tool (non-marring) gently to help the tabs unclip.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Pull the filter straight out by hand while wearing nitrile gloves.
- Use the flashlight to check for leaves/debris inside the filter housing and remove any loose debris by hand.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Match the filterās airflow direction arrow to the direction shown on the housing/cover (if present).
- Slide the new filter in evenly by handādonāt bend or crush it.
- Tip: If it wonāt slide in, itās usually upside down.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover by hand until the tabs click into place.
- Lift the glove box back up, then press the sides inward by hand to pass the stops back into position.
- Reconnect the damper arm by pressing it onto its pin by hand; use the plastic trim removal tool (non-marring) only if necessary to guide it.
ā After Repair
- Start the engine and run the fan at medium speed.
- Cycle VENT > FLOOR > DEFROST to confirm airflow feels normal.
- If you hear a fluttering noise, recheck that the filter is fully seated and not folded.
