- š§ Set HVAC to OFF before starting.
- š Assumption: your Transit Connect uses the behind-glove-box cabin filter access (common on this model).
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and lower the glove box
- Open the glove box fully.
- If a damper strap is on the right side, pop it off carefully using a small flat-blade screwdriver. Go slow so the clip doesnāt snap.
- Push the glove box sides inward by hand to clear the built-in stops, then let the glove box swing down.
Step 2: Remove any trim panel if equipped
- If a small trim panel blocks access near the glove box opening, pry it gently using a trim removal tool (plastic).
- If your version uses fasteners instead of clips, remove them using a 7mm socket with a 1/4" ratchet or a Torx T20 driver.
- For any small trim screws you remove, reinstall them to Torque to 2 Nm (18 in-lbs).
Step 3: Locate the cabin filter access door
- Use a flashlight to look behind the glove box area for a rectangular HVAC access cover (the cabin filter door).
- Release the locking tabs by hand, or gently with a small flat-blade screwdriver if theyāre tight.
Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out with your hands while wearing nitrile gloves.
- Keep it level so trapped leaves and dust donāt spill into the blower housing.
Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter (correct direction)
- Check the airflow arrow on the filter frame.
- Install it in the same direction as the arrow shown on the HVAC housing (airflow direction). Wrong direction can reduce airflow.
- Slide it fully in so it sits flat and doesnāt buckle.
Step 6: Reinstall the access door and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter door until the tabs click into place by hand.
- Reinstall any trim panel removed (clips press in by hand; screws use 7mm socket or Torx T20 driver).
- Reattach the glove box damper strap if equipped.
- Swing the glove box back up and push the sides inward to pass the stops, then close it.
- For any small trim screws you removed, tighten to Torque to 2 Nm (18 in-lbs).
ā After Repair
- š¬ļø Start the engine and run the fan on medium, then high, to confirm strong airflow.
- š Switch between fresh air and recirculate to check for odd noises (a whistle can mean the filter isnāt seated flat).
- š§¾ If you had musty odor, run A/C for a few minutes to help clear stale air.
