🔧 Rogue - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Your Rogue’s cabin air filter cleans the air coming into the HVAC system (heat/AC). Replacing it helps airflow, reduces odors, and keeps dust/pollen out of the cabin.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
  • ⚠️ Work gently around glove box panels to avoid cracking plastic clips.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Flashlight
  • Trim removal tool set (specialty)
  • Nitrile gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Move the front passenger seat back to give yourself room.
  • Empty the glove box so nothing falls out when it drops down.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and prep the glove box

  • Open the glove box fully.
  • Use a flashlight to look along the right side for the small glove box damper arm (a little slowing arm that controls how the glove box drops).

Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper

  • Use a trim removal tool set (specialty) to gently pop the damper arm off its peg (a trim tool is a plastic pry tool that helps you remove panels without scratching them).
  • Set the damper arm aside where it won’t get stepped on.

Step 3: Drop the glove box down

  • Push in on both sides of the glove box (near the stops) to clear the stoppers.
  • Let the glove box swing downward slowly.
  • Go slow—plastic tabs can snap.

Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door

  • Behind the glove box area, use the flashlight to find the rectangular cabin filter cover.
  • Use your fingers, or a trim removal tool set (specialty) if needed, to release the cover tabs and remove the cover.

Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Put on nitrile gloves.
  • Slide the old filter straight out.
  • Notice the airflow direction marking on the filter (usually an arrow). Keep that same direction for the new filter.

Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Slide the new filter in with the airflow arrow pointing the same way as the old one.
  • Make sure it seats fully and sits flat (not buckled or folded).

Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Reinstall the filter cover by pressing it in until the tabs click.
  • Lift the glove box back up and push the sides in again to pass the stops back into place.
  • Reconnect the damper arm to its peg (press on by hand).

âś… After Repair

  • Start the engine and run the blower fan on medium, then high, to confirm strong airflow and no rattles.
  • Cycle HVAC modes (face/floor/defrost) to confirm everything sounds normal.
  • If you hear a ticking noise, recheck that the filter cover is fully clipped in.

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $60-$140 (parts + labor)

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.3-0.5 hours.
