• Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Move the passenger seat back for working room.
• Empty the glove box so nothing falls out.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the glove box

• Open the glove box fully and use a flashlight to look along the right side for the small damper arm (a little strap/arm that slows the door).
• Carefully pop the damper arm off its pin by hand (no tool needed).
• Push in on both sides of the glove box (the flexible side stops) and let the glove box swing down farther.
• Lift the glove box off its lower hinges and set it aside.

Step 2: Check if your Sierra has a cabin filter access door

• Behind the glove box opening, look for a long, rectangular cover on the HVAC case (usually held by tabs).
• If you see a cover you can unclip: follow Step 3.
• If there is no removable cover and you see a “blocked-off” plastic section: skip to Step 4 (retrofit).

Step 3: Replace the filter (factory-access style)

• Unclip the access cover by hand or use a trim removal tool (plastic) (a plastic pry tool that helps remove panels without scratching).
• Slide the old filter out slowly and keep it level to avoid dumping debris.
• Use a shop vacuum to clean leaves/dust from the filter slot.
• Install the new cabin air filter with the airflow arrow pointing in the same direction as the old one (usually toward the rear of the truck).
• Reinstall the access cover until all tabs click in.

Step 4: Retrofit (if no factory access door)

• Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
• If your retrofit kit includes a cut template, hold it in place on the HVAC case and trace it.
• Use a utility knife to carefully cut the outlined opening. Make several light passes—don’t force it. Light cuts are safer than deep cuts.
• Use a shop vacuum to remove all plastic shavings from the opening and surrounding area.
• Slide in the new cabin air filter (follow the airflow arrow on the filter).
• Install the retrofit door/cover kit and make sure it seals and clips in securely.

Step 5: Reinstall the glove box

• Set the glove box back onto the lower hinges.
• Push in on both sides of the glove box to get past the stops and swing it closed.
• Reconnect the damper arm to its pin by hand.

• Start the engine and run the blower on high for 30 seconds.
• Switch between fresh air and recirculation and listen for any rattles from the glove box area.
• If airflow seems weak, recheck that the filter isn’t installed backward or pinched.
