📋 Before You Begin

• Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Move any items out of the glove box so nothing falls out.
• Open the glove box and use a flashlight to look for a rectangular cabin-filter access door behind/above the glove box area.
• Tip: If you see a small door with tabs, you’re “filter-equipped.”

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and lower the glove box

• Open the glove box fully.
• If there’s a small “string” on the right side (the glove box damper), pop it off carefully using a small flat-blade screwdriver. The damper slows the glove box opening.
• Gently push in on both sides of the glove box (near the stops) so it can swing down farther.

Step 2: Remove the trim panel if it blocks access (if needed)

• If you can’t clearly reach the filter area, use a trim removal tool (plastic) to carefully release any lower dash/glove box surround trim clips.
• If screws are present, remove them using a 7mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.

Step 3: Choose the correct path (equipped vs not equipped)

• Path A (equipped): You see a rectangular cabin-filter access door with tabs/clips.
• Path B (not equipped): There is no access door and you see a solid plastic HVAC case area where the door would be.

Step 4A: Remove the cabin filter access door (Path A)

• Use your fingers or a small flat-blade screwdriver to press the tabs and pull off the access door.
• Set the door aside where it won’t get stepped on.

Step 5A: Remove the old filter (Path A)

• Slide the cabin air filter straight out.
• Keep it level to avoid dumping leaves and dust.
• Use a shop vacuum to gently clean out any debris in the filter slot.

Step 6A: Install the new filter (Path A)

• Look for the airflow arrow on the new filter frame.
• Install it in the same direction as the old one came out.
• Slide it fully into place without bending it.

Step 7A: Reinstall the access door (Path A)

• Reinstall the door and press until the tabs click into place.

Step 4B: Install the retrofit access door (Path B)

• Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
• Use a flashlight to locate the factory “outline” where the door is meant to be.
• Using a utility knife, carefully cut along the outlined panel area as directed by the retrofit kit instructions.
• Use a shop vacuum to remove all plastic shavings.
• Install the retrofit door frame/cover from the cabin air filter retrofit kit until it snaps/seals in place.
• Tip: Make multiple light passes—don’t force the knife.

Step 5B: Install the new filter (Path B)

• Insert the cabin air filter with the airflow arrow pointing the correct direction (match the arrow direction shown in the retrofit kit instructions).
• Close and latch the new access door.

Step 8: Reassemble the glove box

• Lift the glove box back up and push the sides in again to pass the stops back into place.
• Reconnect the damper strap (right side) by hand; use a small flat-blade screwdriver only if needed.
• If you removed trim/screws, reinstall them using the 7mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.

• Start your Sierra 1500 and run the HVAC blower on medium/high for 30 seconds.
• Check for normal airflow and listen for any rattles near the glove box.
• If airflow is weak, recheck that the filter isn’t installed backwards or folded.
