Silverado 1500 - Cabin Air Filter Replacement 🧊

On your 2015 Silverado, the cabin air filter is located behind the glove box on the passenger side.

Before You Start ⚠️

  • 🛑 Park on level ground, set the parking brake, turn the engine and A/C off.
  • 📦 Empty the glove box so nothing falls out while you work.

Tools & Parts 🧰

  • 🧩 New cabin air filter (for 2015 Silverado 1500)
  • 🔧 Plastic trim tool (a small plastic pry tool that helps pop panels without scratching them)

Step 1 – Drop the Glove Box 📂

  1. Open the glove box fully.
  2. Look at the sides of the glove box near the back; you’ll see small plastic stops that keep it from falling down.
  3. Push the right side of the glove box inward so the stop clears the dash opening.
  4. Do the same on the left side.
  5. Let the glove box swing down and hang. Support it with one hand so it doesn’t drop hard.

Step 2 – Open the Cabin Filter Door 🚪

  1. Behind the dropped glove box you’ll see a rectangular plastic cover in the HVAC housing (the black plastic box).
  2. This is the cabin filter door. It has small tabs on the sides or bottom.
  3. Press the tabs in with your fingers (or gently with the plastic trim tool) and pull the cover straight off.
  4. Set the cover aside where it won’t get lost.

Step 3 – Remove the Old Filter 🧹

  1. Grab the front edge of the filter and slide it straight out toward you.
  2. Note the airflow arrow printed on the side of the old filter. On this truck it normally points down.
  3. Look inside the opening and remove any leaves or debris by hand.

Step 4 – Install the New Filter 📦

  1. Find the airflow arrow on the new filter.
  2. On your Silverado, air flows from top to bottom, so the arrow should point down.
  3. Slide the new filter into the slot. Keep it straight and don’t crush the pleats. If it feels stuck, pull it out and re-align it.
  4. Reinstall the plastic filter door: hook the bottom edge first (if it has hooks), then push until the side tabs click.

Step 5 – Reinstall the Glove Box 🔁

  1. Lift the glove box back up toward its normal position.
  2. Push each side of the glove box inward slightly so the side stops can slide back into their slots in the dash.
  3. Release the sides and let the glove box rest on the stops.
  4. Open and close the glove box a few times to make sure it moves smoothly.

Step 6 – Final Check ✅

  • Turn the ignition on and run the fan at different speeds.
  • Check that airflow feels normal and there are no new rattles or noises.
  • Put your items back in the glove box.

This job usually takes 10–15 minutes and is perfect for a beginner.
