🔧 Sentra - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Your Sentra’s cabin air filter cleans the air going through the A/C and heater before it reaches the vents. Replacing it helps airflow, reduces musty smells, and can improve A/C performance.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working under the dash.
  • ⚠️ Don’t force plastic panels; they can crack in cold weather.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Flashlight
  • Trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty)
  • Work gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park your Sentra on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Move the passenger seat back to give yourself more room.
  • Have the new filter unwrapped and ready.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the cabin filter access

  • Go to the front passenger footwell and look under/behind the glove box using a flashlight.
  • The cabin filter is housed in a small rectangular slot/cover on the HVAC case (the black plastic air box).

Step 2: Remove the filter access cover

  • Use your fingers first to release the small locking tab(s) on the cover.
  • If it’s tight, use a trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty) to gently pry at the edge of the cover.
  • Pull the cover straight off and set it aside.

Step 3: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Put on work gloves and safety glasses.
  • Grab the exposed end of the filter and pull it out slowly.
  • If it won’t slide out easily, wiggle it slightly while pulling (don’t yank).

Step 4: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Check the airflow arrow on the side of the new filter.
  • Install it with the airflow arrow pointing down (toward the floor) on your Sentra.
  • Slide the filter in until it seats fully and sits flat in the housing.
  • If it buckles, pull it out and try again.

Step 5: Reinstall the access cover

  • Align the cover to the opening and press it on by hand until it clicks into place.
  • Use the flashlight to confirm the cover is fully seated all the way around.

✅ After Repair

  • Start your Sentra and turn the blower fan to medium/high.
  • Confirm strong airflow from the vents and no rattles from behind the glove box.
  • If there was a musty odor, run A/C for a few minutes to check improvement.
